Welcome to YogaBugs Southend-On-Sea! My name is Lisa and I decided to join the YogaBugs network because I have a passion for Yoga and beleive the benefits are noticeable to all that practise it. Previously I worked in the music industry but following the birth of my daughter 2.5 years ago, I knew I wanted to pursue a different career when I returned to work. After much thought and soul searching, I ended up at the door of YogaBugs and decided to become franchisee for Southend-on-Sea. As my life now evolves round my family, it seemed a natural progression to combine a job doing something I enjoy and work with children within that field. I hope you get to experience the positive effect of YogaBugs too!

Dear All, YogaBugs Southend-on-Sea has been very busy spreading the "bug"! I would like to thank so many people for their support and help in the last month, you have been a very receptive and inspiring community to talk to. I would like to say a particular thank you to the children and staff of Home From Home Day Nursery in Westcliff for allowing the Evening Echo to take photos during their session. Look out for these in the Education and Learning supplement of the Echo towards the end of June. So to kick things off, we have lined up Monday morning sessions from 11.45-12.30 at The Shambhala Studios in Leigh. These will be commencing on the 12th July and it will be an ongoing class aimed at pre-schoolers and parents/carers are encouraged to join in too. Please contact me to book or find out more information. I am currently looking at venues in other areas but if you know of a nice clean, warm, comfy space (Thorpe Bay, Chalkwell, Westcliff areas) somewhere that would be good, please contact me on the details below. YogaBugs Southend-on-Sea will also be running a Summer YogaBugs course on Thursday mornings at the West Leigh Children's Centre over the Summer Holidays. This centre is currently based in the Southend Adult Community College, Leigh Centre, Elm Road, Leigh on Sea, Essex SS9 1SP. This will commence on the 29th July for 5 weeks, time tbc. Recipe of the month - Chicken & Apricot Stew
This is a quick stew which can be made in no time after work, it's tasty for all the family and uses fresh Apricots which are in season this month.
Ingredients- olive oil
- 1 large onion , chopped
- 1 tbsp root ginger , grated
- 2 garlic cloves , chopped
- 4 skinless chicken breasts , cut into chunks
- 2 tsp baharat or ras-el-hanout spice blend (look for Bart spices in the supermarket)
- 100g red lentils
- 10 ready-to-eat apricots , finely chopped
- 1 lemon , juiced
- 750ml chicken stock
- a handful of mint or coriander (or both), chopped
- a handful of pomegranate seeds (optional)
MethodHeat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan. Add the onion, ginger and garlic, and season. Cook for 8 minutes and then add the chicken. Cook for 5 minutes and then add the spice blend, lentils, apricots and lemon juice.
Stir in 750ml of stock or water and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in the herbs and pomegranate seeds (if using) and serve with rice or couccous.
Posture of the month - Tree (Vrksana) As it's June, we will celebrate everything that is green and growing outisde with the "Tree" posture! Standing on both legs we bend one, while keeping the other really strong (imagine your foot has roots going into the ground). We place our foot on our ankle, our lower leg or top inner thigh depending on how good our balance is that day. Sometimes it feels really windy and our trees don't balance so well. Remember to try the balance on each leg.
.JPG) - Helping you reach your 5-a-day Try to add a piece of fruit at every mealtime as well as snack times and if your little one is not so enthusiastic try and be creative! Some helpful ideas are to add dried fruit to cereals, (raisons instead of sugar work a treat). Make ice lollies from fresh fruit (not concentrated) juice or make fresh fruit smoothies with milk/yoghurt and honey for a healthy tasty drink.
Meet The Blues Day in partnership with ActiveSouthend. YogaBugs are very excited to be a part of this years Meet The Blues Day in partnership with activesouthend. The perfect opportunity to come along and sample a YogaBugs class for free! Southend United are pleased to announce that their annual Meet the Blues Day event will be held on Sunday 18th July at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre. This year’s Meet the Blues Day is in partnership with activesouthend. All your favourite Blues players will be in attendance at the venue at Garons Park, with the chance for you to meet them and get their autograph. There will also be a host of other sporting and fun activities including judo, cycling, football, mini tennis and tennis, as well as an appearance from the Essex Pirates basketball team. All sports sessions will be free of charge to take part in. The event will start at 10:00am and finish at 3:45pm. Sessions will last 45 mins and to book your free YogaBugs session please call Kevin Read on 01702 215612.

We can arrange YogaBugs Birthday parties. Parties usually last 2 hours and and would normally begin with approx 45 minutes "YogaBug adventure" followed by the food, then we would finish the party off with some YogaBug games.
