The official explanation: The fun classes offer a creative blend of simple yoga postures and adventure-led story telling. Yoga improves children's co-ordination, balance, builds strength and stamina and can promote healthy sleeping patterns. The story-telling enables children to explore their imaginations and they are always the heroes of the story. Children really enjoy stretching their bodies in new ways as they transform themselves into all kinds of characters including lions, mermaids, gorillas, dolphins, dinosaurs, snakes and warriors. The classes also include relaxation, giving valuable time for children to slow down.
Yogabugs classes - suitable for children aged 2 and a half to 7 years. Yoga'd Up Classes - suitable for children aged 8 - 12 years.

About the Team
Joanna Cowper - Pateley Bridge I have been practising yoga for nearly 20 years, starting when I was 17 to help cope with the exam stress and have continued with regular practice and classes since then. Before becoming a YogaBugs instructor I studied dance and drama at university then worked as a sports and culture adviser for Yorkshire Forward. I have 2 children who I hope will become YogaBugs too when they are old enough. I am very keen to spark an enthusiasm for yoga in kids and help them develop physically and mentally through the benefits yoga brings. There are many social and academic pressures on children today and I hope to be able to help them cope with the stress of these demands. With older children, yoga helps connect mind and body at a time when there is lots of pressure on. It can encourage them to develop into confident adults through yoga practice. I hope yoga will instil in them a sense of personal value, self esteem and self worth.
Louise Emery - Harrogate Having practised various styles of yoga for almost ten years, I still find that words cannot describe the immense benefits I have experienced on both a mental and physical level. I have always been keen to share this way of life with my own children - 'yoga' being one of their first words! YogaBugs combines the physical aspect of yoga with breathing, time to relax and unwind, and more importantly unleashing their imaginations. In this competitive world we live in, I think that it is great that children can now partake in a non-competitive activity which not only helps strengthen their growing bodies and improves their breathing, but can also provide them with the confidence and ease to just be themselves ... children. Lindsay Gale - Leeds I discovered yoga as a teenager and have reaped the mental and physical rewards over the last 20 years. I have studied and received diplomas from the International Centre for Yoga Education and Research and Union Yoga. For me, yoga is a way of life and I feel incredibly lucky to have practised it from such an early age and feel passionate about giving children the opportunity to practise yoga. As a qualified teacher, I have always been keen to share my passion of yoga with school pupils offering it as an extra-curricular activity as well as part of the school's PE programme. It is immensely rewarding to see how quickly school pupils develop a love for yoga; realising how the joy of physical challenge can be united with the focus and calm of the mind. YogaBugs provides a foundation on which to build a whole lifetime of yoga fun.
Angela Johnson - Leeds I have taught in a range of primary school settings for over 30 years and have practised yoga for over 20 years. YogaBugs therefore offers me the perfect vehicle for my interests and skills. Because I feel that yoga contributes so much to my own physical and mental wellbeing, I now wish to encourage children to experience similar benefits through the exciting activities offered by YogaBugs. I have been greatly impressed by the sessions which I have observed and the intensive training which I have undertaken for the new role and I am now really keen to bring the fun of YogaBugs to children in the Leeds area. Lara Skidmore - YogaBugs and Yoga'd Up teacher in Leeds I was dancing from the age of four and continued to train in dance right through to my teens. In my twenties I discovered yoga and it gave me the same mind, body connection that I had experienced in my youth - that feeling of focused mind yet freedom of the body through movement. I love it! I have been practising yoga for roughly ten years now and teaching adult, pregnancy and children's yoga at venues in Leeds, Ilkley and Otley for the last four. I have undertaken various trainings with renowned teachers in the UK, Europe and India during this time. However, most of my learnings come directly from teaching my pupils who are always providing me with insight and inspiration. Yoga is my passion and as such I aim to make my classes imaginative, creative, fluid and fun. Introducing new ideas and learnings all the time to keep children interested and to aid their progress ... I really do feel though that words alone cannot convey the value of Yoga. It needs to be experienced! More information on my adult classes can be found at http://www.fluidyoga.co.uk Amelia Wood - Leeds Having practiced yoga for 5 years and worked with children in art workshops, YogaBugs provides the perfect opportunity to combine all the things I love - yoga, creativity, storytellingand facilitating a space for children to get lost in their imaginations. I recently trained as a yoga teacher in the Sivananda school of yoga. The day we focused on yoga for children was by far the most fun and I knew this is where I wanted to focus my energy. I was lucky enough to discover yoga whilst at university but believe it would have been wonderful if I had learnt it from a younger age. I want to enable children to partake in an activity that is simultaneously physical and creative but does not focus on competition; in something that takes their minds and bodies away from the constraints of the classroom or home life.
About the Regional Manager
Rachel Frazer Yoga is my passion and stories are my daughter's passion so the opportunity to combine these two wonderful activities and launch YogaBugs in Yorkshire was too good to miss. Technology may be broadening children's horizons but at the same time, children spend more and more time indoors and sitting down - at the computer, Play Station or watching television. The natural flexibility they are born with diminishes earlier and earlier in their lives. The adventure-led storytelling in a YogaBugs class allows children to explore their limitless imaginations whilst the yoga allows their bodies to bend and stretch in ways an adult would be jealous of! I am always astounded at how easily a child can bring their foot to their ear (which becomes a telephone in YogaBugs classes!).
Children, even those who don't naturally enjoy sport, need to be encouraged to keep their bodies fit and healthy and YogaBugs is the perfect way to do that.
Before launching YogaBugs Yorkshire I spent ten years as Head of Press and PR at West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds. My communication skills have proved invaluable in promoting YogaBugs to lots of different groups including parents, nurseries and schools, and the time I spent working alongside actors at the Playhouse, as well as my degree in drama enable me to make my classes lots of fun. I love encouraging children to become a ferocious lion or a slippery snake, a beautiful mermaid or even a YogaBugs space ship as it blasts off towards the moon! I started out my diverse career as a Registered Nurse and have retained that qualification, working part time alongside my YogaBugs commitments. My nursing experience gives me an additional understanding of both the physical and emotional benefits of yoga.
YogaBugs Yorkshire now has a team of five qualified teachers working across Leeds and North Yorkshire helping children between 2.5 and 12 years to enjoy a creative and non-competitive physical activity. I am thrilled to be managing a business which introduces children to a holistic activity which they can take with them throughout their lives and perhaps still be doing when they are 70 years old!
