Yoga in 26 different countries?!…

With Yoga becoming one of the most popular, simple and fun exercises to take part in, it is no surprise that it has become as popular as it is.

However, it’s quite incredible to see the reach that it has across the world.

At YogaBugs, we help children all over the UK to handle their emotions and become more calm individuals. We have found that this has helped hundreds of children become physically and emotionally stronger which are two very valuable life skills.

Today we came across a video by a yoga expert doing her moves in different locations in the world.

In this, she does some of our YogaBugs inspired moves including the Downward Dog, Surfer, Archer, Magic Bird any many more.

We hope you enjoyed the video, remember to share this article to help Amy spread her story all over the world.

5 benefits of Yoga

For those of you aren’t sure about Yoga and its benefits, don’t worry you are not alone… This is why here at YogaBugs we have decided to tell you why Yoga is such a growing success and how it can help each and every one of us.

Yoga Promotes weight loss

Once you have the correct diet in line with your yoga exercise, your weight will drop right off. Studies have shown that if you follow a protein-rich diet, then you will build muscle and lose fat while doing low intensity exercise. This shows that it can not only help you lose weight, but also give muscle tone, which is perfect with summer holidays coming up!

Yoga improves your general health

Yoga can benefit your general health in more ways than one. Because it is a relaxing exercise, it has been proven to lower the heart rate and regulate breathing. Because Yoga is considered ‘low-impact’ activity, you are at much less risk of exerting any muscles or joints in your body. Yoga can also give you more self-confidence and change your outlook on life in a positive sense. This type of exercise will give you a better body-mind connection because you are using both at the same time and you will be aware of your body much more.

Yoga can alleviate sleep issues

Regular Yoga has now been proven to improve the quality and duration of sleep, according to studies. By using controlled breathing and relaxing muscles tension through exercise, it is said that those who take up Yoga on a regular (weekly) basis are likely to get between 7-8 hours of sleep a night. This is great news for any mums and dads coming home from a long day at work!

Yoga can combat stress

It’s nice to take a step back from our social bubble sometimes. Equally, shaking of any stress that comes along with it. Scientifically speaking, when taking part in yoga the levels of inflammatory compounds naturally decrease which are responsible for reacting to stress. If this doesn’t make you want to start doing Yoga, then I don’t know what will.

Yoga can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression

Studies in Boston University Medical Centre have proven that there is a link between taking part in Yoga and decreasing levels of depression and anxiety. More specifically, taking part in Yoga can increase the intake of GABA in the human body which is said to affect our mood.

At YogaBugs we make sure that each child receives the full benefits of Yoga, by teaching through story themed adventures. We can’t tell you how many times parents have come forward about their kids and said that Yoga has helped them tackle social situations in school and also made them more confident, well-rounded children.

If you are interested in your child taking part in YogaBugs, but don’t know enough about it, don’t worry, our taster sessions allow them to take part with zero pressure!

This is why Yoga should be in schools…

Teachers look away now, because Yoga is coming to a school near you.

Our YogaBugs classes are filled to the brim with action-packed adventures that take a trip through a child’s imagination. Whether your a teacher looking to calm a class of 30 kids, or even a child looking to battle with the pressures of learning 10 different subjects, Yoga is ready and waiting to try and take the cool off.

You can’t argue with our fantastic storytelling, so why not join in the ride, if you can get a seat. Whether your child wants to be a treasure seeking pirate sailing through the seven seas, or see from the eyes of a chimpanzee swinging through the Amazon jungle, we help the kids open up their bright minds and you won’t believe some of adventures some of the kid’s have told us about in the past.

If storytelling isn’t your thing then feel free to join in on our silly songs, they help make the class fun and are totally the opposite of being sat through a boring maths class.

It doesn’t stop there, lots and lots of social interactions take place in the Yoga sessions. The children get to share their experiences with new friends through their love of Yoga, this can improve their spoken language and self-confidence. Some children from our classes have even showed too much confidence… and corrected their parents Yoga postures.

The great thing about YogaBugs is that children don’t need to look at their parents for help, in fact the beautiful thing is that it’s often the other way round because the kid’s are the ones with all the creative imagination. The classes not only engage you mentally though, there are some unique postures that feature in every lesson, that will make you stretch in all sorts of directions that you didn’t know were possible.

Let this be a reminder that Yoga should indefinitely be part of the school curriculum, just look at some of the benefits listed above, and you can make your own mind up as to whether it should be it’s own class!

Children often complain that there are enough classes these days, but Yoga doesn’t have the same feel, it’s purely an escape. There are always times that we have wanted to hide-away from pressures in school, but there has never been a healthy alternative that isn’t damaging. This is where Yoga comes in, as it’s often a way often channeling your mature

The opportunities are endless here at YogaBugs, and every day we find new benefits that apply to both parents and children, so you better to get started.

Yoga reduces anxiety – it’s a fact!

You kids have been going through a tough time recently, and we understand why. With Anxiety being higher that it’s ever been through  the pressures of school, exams and social circles it’s a time in a child’s life that is often overlooked by us parents.

At YogaBugs we came across an interesting study found in the “Psychology Research and Behaviour Management” which outlines the the fantastic benefits that you will notice in your child straight away!

UK stats show that 1 in 5 children will suffer from a mental health related illness before the age of 11. This figure is continuing to rise across the UK, and YogaBugs are working to stop it in it’s tracks.

But what causes Anxiety in children?

There could be a number of issues that trigger anxiety in kids. Social fears can be a common cause, for example a child being placed in an unfamiliar or challenging situation can make them nervous, this is known as normal anxiety.

So how do I know if my child is suffering from Anxiety?

Sometimes it’s hard to tell, especially if your child is afraid to talk about their feelings. This is why there some clear symptoms that can give you as a parent, a hint;

  • Airing negative thoughts
  • Worrying about things constantly
  • Struggles to concentrate
  • Irritable, quick to get angry
  • Not eating meals properly

These are just some of the common symptoms, but for more information visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/anxiety-disorders-in-children/

What does Mindfulness do to help?

Mindfulness is a calming method to help alleviate anxiety disorders and even depression. Mindfulness is a meditation practice that focuses on breathing methods and posture to create a relaxed environment and a healthy mind. At YogaBugs we have learnt that this is the best way to help improve a child’s ability to observe challenging situations without being scared.

YogaBugs is the largest children’s yoga inspired activity in the UK offering classes for children from walking age to seven years and beyond. We work with hundreds of schools to give children a fun experience, whilst improving their confidence, concentration and the children’s overall wellbeing.

Promoting healthy body image and wellness with YogaBugs!

YUP - Down Dog
43d4ec15b25973bdbbd3342aea663da6

In recent news there has been a lot of talk about promoting a healthy body image and wellness of the mind in children. There are many influences in social media as children have more access to images of unhealthy body types that may pressure them into thinking that they need to look a certain way to be accepted as ‘normal’ in society. Girls who are in transition into teenage years seem to be particularly affected by such pressures, so it is important that we support these children during these difficult times. There is also the added pressure of the looming SATS, which means rising levels of stress and anxiety for these girls.

There are ways that YogaBugs classes can help alleviate tensions and worries of the modern world. The activities that we have created reduces stress, creates ‘mindfulness’, promotes relaxation and boosts self-confidence.

Our Yoga’d up classes for 8 – 12 year olds are structured to appeal to an age group who want to be physically challenged, mentally stimulated and entertained. Classes include a variety of postures, partner poses and fun Yoga’d Up games. Children end the class with relaxation and visualisation techniques. The combination of all these ingredients help and support them through a time of pre-teen change and beyond to adolescence.

This concern follows a BBC article ‘Under-18 models may be banned from catwalk.’ This article strongly highlights how young girls are pushed by top modelling agencies to lose weight so they are “down to the bone”. We recognise how unhealthy this is and how damaging it can be for a young girl’s self-confidence and self-esteem.

Here at http://yogabugs.com/index.php?page_name=home YogaBugs we are committed to ensuring children and young people achieve their full potential and enjoy a healthy, safe, and happy life. YogaBugs allows children of all abilities excel and children can work towards improving their personal best without the pressure of competition.

As well as being a great form of physical exercise, YogaBugs promotes a wide range of emotional benefits such as

  • Improved self-confidence
  • Release of day to day anxieties
  • Improved concentration & memory retention
  • Increased ability for children to learn more easily
  • Developed creativity
  • Improves healthy sleep patterns
  • Allows children to express their emotions physically

Not to mention a wealth of Physical benefits such as

  • Strengthened muscles
  • Balanced energy levels
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Improved respiratory and circulation
  • Improved digestive systems
  • Supported joint mobility
  • Developed posture
  • Improved flexibility

“Growth is the key to this business. I love the Yoga and the uniqueness of YogaBugs means I really stand out from the competition of other more traditional children’s activities. I take this message and I share it with as many people as I can reach, and I understand the need to fully put into practise and use the support tools HQ provide me with. For me this is a full time business and one I take very seriously. We have an important message to deliver, but the beauty is the more children I inspire to be active the more I earn”.

Well done to YogaBugs Franchisee Karen Williams celebrating her 1st Year with YogaBugs!

Quote

We would like to say a BIG congratulation to Karen Williams our YogaBugs Teesside Regional Manager, who is celebrating her first year With YogaBugs in style by securing 45 hours per week in schools and nurseries in the Teesside area for the new school term in September.

Since Karen joined YogaBugs in August 2014, she has been off to a flying start with so many Head Teachers and PE Co-Ordinators loving the YogaBugs’ ethos and recommending her to others in the area – she is proud to be stretching the imagination of so many children in schools and nurseries in her territory.

Please see below a fantastic testimonial from one of the schools Karen is currently working in….

“The days Karen comes in to work with our nursery children are always so exciting for us all – children and staff love her!  She has a really good manner with the children and always tries to link with our curriculum which has been lovely to see.  As this year is progressing we can see how well the children are responding to the exercises she does with them, now she can say the name of one of the familiar postures and the children respond by getting themselves into the correct position.  We are all big advocators of YogaBugs in Nursery and Karen is doing a marvellous job with the children”.

Kate JukesNursery Teacher at Green Lane Primary Academy, Acklam.

When we caught up with Karen and asked her what made her choose YogaBugs this time last year this is what she said…

“Following eleven years as a primary school teacher and after having my two children, I began looking for a better work/life balance that would allow me to combine my love of working with children and my desire to run my own business. When I came across YogaBugs I knew it was the right thing for me! Children can be introduced to the benefits of yoga whilst most importantly using their imagination and having fun I love seeing the impact that YogaBugs can have on children who take part in our classes”.

Karen has truly taken her first year with YogaBugs by storm, and we cannot wait to see the growing impact that she will have on schools and nurseries in her area in the 2015/16 new school term!

Well Done Karen,

Keep up the great work!
